Lake of the Woods, Virginia- Independence Day celebration July 5, 2014
On Saturday, July 5th Lake of the Woods is hosting their annual Independence Day celebration. As our nation celebrates the 238th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the patriotic spirit that has enabled the United States to achieve greatness is alive and well and will be on full display in Lake of the Woods, Virginia.
Saturday will be filled with family-oriented events throughout the day. The Equestrian Center will be offering Pony Rides for the young riders for $5.00 starting at 9 am until 11 am. Come early, as this is always an extremely popular attraction. The annual parade will begin at 10:30 AM starting at Yorktown Blvd and Lakeview Parkway and heading towards the Clubhouse. Sponsored by the Lake of the Woods Veteran’s Association, the parade will pay tribute to the brave men and women who have retired from or are currently serving in our Armed Forces. Their sacrifices and those of their families have enabled all of us to enjoy the freedom and opportunity we have in this great nation. The parade will culminate with the flag-raising in front of the clubhouse around noon.
From noon until 4 PM the Clubhouse point will have many activities, games, refreshments and food for all participants to enjoy. Various Clubs and organizations, along with local businesses will provide many great possibilities to have a fantastic day. From 6 PM until 8 PM the Lake of the Woods Ski Team will amaze and entertain guests with the athleticism, skill and courage as skiers of all ages perform for the crowd.
This amazing day will wrap up with the evening’s highlight of fireworks from the Main Dam. If this year is like others, the visual display and booming explosions are certain to provide the final drama to a fun-packed day, people on land and the hundreds of boats on the lake reflect on the privilege it is to be an American.
